Getting Checked for Prostate Cancer
How to get checked and what to expect
If you are worried that you have symptoms or signs of prostate cancer it is vital that you visit your GP.
Information on the different tests and diagnostics for prostate cancer can be found on the infopool.

Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA)
The prostate produces a protein called prostate-specific antigen (PSA). PSA helps to make your semen more liquid.
Digital Rectal Examination (DRE)
A digital rectal examination is when a doctor checks your prostate gland.
Bone Scan
A bone scan uses small amounts of a radioactive substance to help diagnose different bone conditions.
Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)
Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a type of scan to get a detailed picture of the inside of your body.
Positron Emission Tomography (PET) Scan
A PET scan produces detailed three-dimensional images of the inside of your body. It can clearly show any part of the body. This includes any areas that look abnormal.
Prostate biopsy
A prostate biopsy is done to check for prostate cancer.
Computed Tomography (CT) Scan
A CT scan uses radiation (X-rays) and a computer to make detailed pictures of the inside of your body.
