Looking at the impact of Social Identities and Demographic factors on the Quality of Life for those living beyond cancer
This week, our blog features a guest post by Saskia Kershaw, who is conducting this study as part of a Professional Doctorate in Health Psychology at the University of West England.
What is the research and why is it important?
This online survey is exploring the effects of various demographic factors such as age, sex, class, race and sexuality impact an individual’s quality of life after cancer treatment has finished. Those who choose to participate will follow a link and be presented initially with a participant information sheet to read, before being asked if they consent to taking part in this research. If you do consent to take part you will then be asked questions about yourself and to complete a quality of life questionnaire, taking about 20 minutes in total.
By exploring these factors and their impacts on individuals quality of life, we hope that we build a better understanding of these demographic factors and their impact on quality of life for those living beyond cancer (also known as cancer survivors). This can then be used to inform further research and identify unmet needs within health care and cancer care pathways for individuals in the future.
Who is doing this research?
This research is being completed by Saskia Kershaw ([email protected]) as part of Professional Doctorate in Health Psychology at the University of the West of England (UWE), Bristol.
How can I help this project?
We are looking for volunteers to complete this anonymous, online survey, taking about 20 minutes, before the end of January 2025 by following this link: https://uwe.eu.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_9B2oviwGKpbMKWi
You will first be asked to look through a participant information sheet and a data protection sheet, before being asked if you consent to taking part in the study. If you then consent to this you will then access the survey questions.
If I participate, what will happen? Will I be contacted afterwards?
If you are interested in taking part in this research you will be asked to read through a participant information sheet by following this link: https://uwe.eu.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_9B2oviwGKpbMKWi before then being asked if you would like to take part in the study. If you would like to, you will then be asked a series of questions about yourself and complete a quality of life questionnaire.
Once you complete this, if you would like to be contacted by the researcher with a summary of the researchers results please email the researcher at [email protected]. Additionally, if you complete the survey and would like to withdraw your data please contact the researcher via email.
Who can I contact for more information?
If you have any questions about the research please contact the researcher, Saskia Kershaw via email: [email protected]
If you would like to participate or learn more about the study, please follow this link
Saskia does not receive funding from PCR. We decided to feature this research on the PCR website because we felt it was an important topic, with the potential to improve quality of life for men with prostate cancer. We also confirmed ethics approval before deciding to help promote Saskia's research.
