Prostate Cancer Research Centre is working with the social research agency Versiti to set up and run an online research community for prostate cancer patients. The study will be for 48 participants as we aim to understand the experiences of people living with prostate cancer, especially those who may be underserved by existing cancer services. The aim is to run the study over a 2-week long period in early to mid-August and it will all be conducted online.

We want to hear from people who have or have had a diagnosis of prostate cancer about what it is like for them and what could make (or could have made) the experience less difficult. This will help us to develop patient information and education activities that help people with prostate cancer to be more informed and more connected, as well as helping to improve quality of life outcomes, and we will seek input from people with prostate cancer on tools that are in development.

By taking part in the online patient community, men with prostate cancer will have the opportunity to share their experiences and learn from others so that they can help make a difference.

This research project is not your standard research project i.e. it’s not just about surveys and focus groups. The format of the online community means that people have an interactive, confidential and safe environment where they have the time and space to answer questions, discuss things that matter most to them, and support each other.

The benefits of taking part

By the end of the online patient community, we hope that people will:

  • Have a better understanding of their own prostate cancer journey and, by learning from others, how to identify and help manage changes in their own health and wellbeing.
  • Feel better able to and more comfortable in communicating, sharing and discussing their experiences and sensitive issues with both their loved ones and men who are in a similar situation as them.
  • Feel motivated and empowered to continue to support others through their prostate cancer journey.

If you are interested in taking part, please complete this form and a member of our team will be in touch.
