We are inviting people affected by prostate cancer, in particular members of the Black community, who are the main focus of this call in light of their being most affected by prostate cancer, to come forward and be part of the decision-making process when we select the research projects which we fund.
In September, we were delighted to announce the launch of our 2021 grant call, which is focused on tackling racial disparities in prostate cancer. We are now assessing the applications submitted to the call.
Patient representatives will be asked to read everyday language descriptions of research proposals and information on the relevance of the project to prostate cancer patients. They will then discuss these during a virtual meeting. Example lay descriptions can be seen here. These discussions will be instrumental in helping us to decide which projects should be funded and enabling us to fund the best research.
The meeting will take place virtually on Zoom, on the 25th January 6-8:30pm and the 5th February 2022 10am-12:30pm. Patient representatives will only need to attend one meeting and will be reimbursed £80 for their time on the panel.
