Take on the challenge, support life-changing research!

Want to get spooky this Halloween? Then this is the perfect challenge for you. Dress to distress and take on the 10km walk with the PCR Events Team - or push yourself on the half or full marathon walk (if you dare...)

Choose your distance, gather your bravest guys & ghouls to make up a team – or go it alone if you dare and meet up with other chilling challengers. The creepy dungeon keepers at The Oval start & finish will meet, greet & shock. Once you escape there’s ghostly looped routes, with zombie rest stops, and if you manage to get back in one piece there’s a macabre medal, a glass of the Devil’s fizz, some horrifically delicious hot food & drink – and a souvenir bobble hat to ward off the spirits as you head off.

Charity Sponsorship

You pay a small registration fee, do lots of fundraising and we cover the cost of your event place!

  • Half marathon: Reg fee £7.50/ fundraising target £155
  • Full marathon: Reg fee £10 / fundraising target £225

This is a fantastic opportunity to complete an exciting and rewarding challenge for a exceptionally cheaper registration price than a non-charity spot.

Mixed Funding

Pay half of the event place cost yourself, fundraise a bit less and we pay the balance of the event place cost.

  • Half marathon: Reg fee £29.50/ fundraising target £100
  • Full marathon: Reg fee £39.50 / fundraising target £120

Self Fund

You pay the full cost of the event place and fundraise whatever you want, with no set target or deadline, and there’s no cost at all to the charity!

  • 10km: £37.50 (£27.50 12-16 year old price)
  • Half marathon: £59 (£44 12-17 year old price)
  • Full marathon:£79 (£59 12-17 year old price)

Your fundraising helps us to support our research and ultimately transform lives. We could not continue to fund our research without you, and without our research we cannot achieve better outcomes for men with prostate cancer and their families.

We currently fund fourteen research projects, all of which aim to develop more effective treatments for and better understandings of prostate cancer. Following our ecosystem report, we are determined to fund projects that explore current gaps in knowledge and treatment to move the field forward and reach new and better treatments sooner.

How much could you raise for our PCR scientists? Did you know that –

£73 would fund materials to grow a cell colony.

£250 would fund 6 months of essential lab consumables.

Where and when does the Halloween Walk take place?

Saturday 30th October 2021, starting at The Oval in London. The route will lead you past some iconic city landmarks and to spooky corners of the city.

How fit do I need to be to do the Thames Bridges Trek?

With different distances available, this challenge is suited to all abilities. It’s a challenge for everyone!

What should I wear?

We encourage you to get your ghoul on and dress as scary as possible!!

We also suggest that you bring warm layers to keep you cozy on the route – including a thermal, a jumper, waterproof jacket, gloves, a hat and comfy shoes.

Can I run the route?

No – this challenge is strictly walking only.

Will the PCR Team be there?

Yes!

Amy, Eurydice and Ellen from our Events Team will be taking on the 10km distance dressed as spooky scientists – and we would love for you to join us.

For this distance, you can set your own fundraising target. If you take on another distance, please do let us know as we would love to see you at The Oval before or after, or on the route itself!

What Covid-19 safety measures will be in place?

The Action Challenge team have put in place an array of social distancing & hygiene measures. These include:

  • Ultra Challenges – events hosted outdoors, in open space
  • Face masks in key zones at rest stops
  • If cancelled, free transfer or full refunds
  • Hand sanitising & cleaning stations
  • Start times staggered & spread out on the route
  • Social distancing at all times
  • Venue, facilities & route directional flow
    drinks served by our team & one way flow
  • Personal medical declaration. Screening if required
  • Restricted supporter numbers at rest stops

For 2021, with this new proven & approved format, each Ultra Challenge will be as low risk as possible for everyone involved.

What are the start times?

3 Halloween Challenges – with start times to suit those who to get home in the evening (or down the pub) – and late starts for the ‘Night Owls’ or ‘Over-Nighters’ with a Sunday finish.

  • 10 K Walk – Start slots: 3pm – 6pm
  • Half Marathon – Start slots: 3pm – 6pm for day/evening hike OR – 9pm – 10pm if you crave ‘The Night’
  • Full Marathon – Start slots: Midday – 1pm for day & evening trek OR 9pm – 10pm if you’re a creature of the dark and want an ‘over-nighter’

How much do I need to raise and what fundraising support will I receive?

The fundraising target for this event varies depending on your place type and distance. Specific information about this can be found on this page or the Ultra Challenge website.

Where does the money I raise go?

All funds raised will go back into funding research and allowing scientists to test out methods and ideas and find better treatments for life-threatening prostate cancer.

What do I receive for completing the Thames Bridges Trek?

You’ll get a medal, finisher’s T-shirt, downloadable finishers certificate and a glass of fizz – and of course a well earned rest!

You’ll also receive an official thank you letter from PCR for your fantastic fundraising and a PCR medal.
