The Big Half 2019

This week, PCRC Events Executive Lauren tells us how the Events Team will be out in full force at the Vitality Big Half this weekend.

The support around the course was absolutely fantastic – I can’t think of any part of the run that was not lined with supporters encouraging the runners.

The Big Half

When the Vitality Big Half Marathon launched last year, the event organisers made it clear that this new running event was to bring together Londoners of all backgrounds and celebrate the community of runners who live across the city. Despite the unlucky hit of snow on race day, the Vitality Big Half 2018 was a huge success, and London Marathon Events are continuing to create opportunities for runners from different communities in 2019.

Covering 13.1 miles through London, the Vitality Big Half 2019 takes on half of the London Marathon but backwards, giving runners a taste of marathon glory! Anyone taking part in the run will pass by some of London’s most famous landmarks to the sound of cheering crowds from locals and supporters, out to celebrate the diversity of London.

A Fantastic Route and Great Atmosphere

Last year, one of our marathon runners, Kevin, took part in the half marathon to prepare for the big day in April.

“I loved it so much that I signed up to do it again, flying the PCRC flag once more! This was a really well organised event. It is a fantastic route, starting on Tower Bridge, taking a circular route round to Canary Wharf and then back over Tower Bridge, through Bermondsey, and finishing in Greenwich.

The support around the course was absolutely fantastic – I can’t think of any part of the run that was not lined with supporters encouraging the runners. There was a great atmosphere among the runners too; it was clearly a popular training run for those doing the London Marathon.

I thought it was a great run and had no hesitation in signing up for it again this year.”

Event Details

Taking place on Sunday 10th of March, the Events Team here at PCRC will be out in force at the Vitality Big Half, cheering on our runners with pride. Running a half marathon is no small feat, and we know how important it is to help our runners know that they have achieved something amazing.

PCRC are lucky enough to have a team of 15 runners taking part in the Vitality Big Half this year. According to the Big Half website, general entry is now closed. You can still join with a last minute charity place with a £250 fundraising target by emailing Lauren at lward@pcr.org.uk, or come along and cheer on our runners!
