The prostate is found only in men.

It is about the size of a table-tennis ball.

It is located underneath the bladder – see diagram.

It surrounds the urethra (the tube taking urine from the bladder to the penis).

The prostate contributes fluid to the ejaculate.

It contains chemicals to help the sperm fertilize the egg.

It causes three problems in men:

  • Prostate cancer
  • Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (also called BPH or Benign Enlargement)
  • Prostatitis

Prostate cancer and BPH are very common in men over 50

Prostate cancer and BPH can cause similar symptoms, usually with the waterworks

Whatever your symptoms, it is vital that you go to the doctor
