ITINERARY
Day 1:
Flight to Keflavk, the airport that serves Reykjavik. Transfer to hotel in Reykjavik.
Day 2:
After an early breakfast we leave for the journey to a crack in the earth close to Mt. Hekla, Valagj
Day 3:
Trek from Landmannahellir to Landmannalaugar passing lakes and the magnificent Domadalslava lava fields.
Day 4:
From Landmannalaugar we trek across the ancient lava field of Laugahraun, formed in 1477. Its an area of much geothermal activity with steaming vents and gurgling hot springs.
Day 5:
Wade through an icy stream, visit a black volcanic plain devoid of vegetation and encounter the raging Kaldaklofskvisi river as we trek towards the deep canyon of the Markarfljot river.
Day 6:
Markarfljot canyon which is well over 100m deep as we draw nearer to Thorsmrk the landscape becomes more green and wooded. Three dramatic glaciers preside over the valley too.
Day 7:
Hike to the top of Valahnjkur a breath-taking viewpoint from where we can see a panorama of Icelandic landscape. Transfer to Reykjavik and prepare for the evenings celebrations!
Day 8:
Reykjavik
Free day to relax, explore the islands capital or go on some local excursions.
Day 9:
Transfer to the airport for the flight back to the UK.
