• £1000 will keep one researcher equipped with chemicals and disposable equipment for one month
• £500 will buy a DNA sequencing kit
• £250 is the cost of a special kit used to transfer genes into cells
• £100 pays for a 500ml bottle of the medium in which cancer cells are grown in the laboratory
• £50 buys a pack of 400 50ml polypropylene tubes
• £25 buys a box of 60 syringes
• £10 will pay for a month’s supply of pipettes
