How your money helps

£10,000

Most of our work requires fresh human tissue taken from biopsies during surgery. The tissue samples are selected for us by a histopathologist. We also use the histopathologist to determine the clinical significance of a protein in normal or prostate cancer tissue. To use the services of a skilled practitioner for ½ day per week costs £10,000.

£6,000

The basic tools of our research are the chemicals and disposables that each team member uses on a daily basis. £6,000 will provide one scientist with the tools they need for 6 months.

£2,500

DNA is the basis of human life. It is also the basis of our research. A DNA sequencing kit costs £500. A donation of £2,500 will provide one researcher with kits for 12 months.

£1,000

Whenever we see scientists on the TV they are using pipettes to transfer cells into flasks for microscopic examination. £1,000 will supply one team with pipettes for a year.

£500

Every year over 30,000 men will be told they have prostate cancer. We publish an information booklet which is sent out, free of charge to individuals, hospitals, clinics and other organisations. It is designed to help newly diagnosed men and their families make the decisions they will face regarding the treatment and care they will need. £500 will cover the distribution of 500 booklets.

£100

Will pay for a 500ml bottle of the medium in which cancer cells are grown in the laboratory.

£50

Will buy a box of 400 50ml polypropylene tubes.
